WDBA 2025 Annual Meeting

This year’s Annual Meeting for the Western District of Wisconsin Bar Association will take place on June 26, 2025.

We are thrilled to announce our keynote speaker Professor Joanna C. Schwartz. Schwartz is a Professor of Law at UCLA School of Law and the Faculty Director of the David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy. A leading expert on police misconduct and the author of Shielded: How the Police Became Untouchable (2023). Her scholarship focuses on the empirical study of the justifications for the qualified immunity doctrine; the financial impacts of settlements and judgments on law enforcement officers and agency budgets, and the regional variation in civil rights protections across the country. Her articles have appeared in the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The Atlantic, The Boston Review, and Politico, and has appeared on NPR’s Fresh Air, CBS Sunday Morning, PBS NewsHour, ABC News, CNN, MSNBC, and elsewhere. She received her J.D. from Yale University and her B.A. from Brown University.

The Annual Meeting will begin with the WDBA board’s annual meeting, before lunch. After lunch, the meeting will move to the Western District Courthouse and continue with CLE presentations followed by remarks and a happy hour. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in person.
