11:00 AM: WDBA Board of Governors Meeting 

The Annual Meeting will begin with the WDBA Board of Governors’ Annual Meeting. This is optional for WDBA members, but open to those who wish to attend. WDBA Board Elections will be held at 11:30 AM.

11:30 AM: Registration and Lunch Service

Please plan to arrive at 11:30 AM to check in and enjoy lunch, catered by Banzo. Vegetarian and vegan options will be available.

12:00 PM: Professor Joanna C. Schwartz’s Keynote Speech

Professor Joanna C. Schwartz  is a Professor of Law at UCLA School of Law and the Faculty Director of the David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy. A leading expert on police misconduct and the author of Shielded: How the Police Became Untouchable (2023). Her scholarship focuses on the empirical study of the justifications for the qualified immunity doctrine; the financial impacts of settlements and judgments on law enforcement officers and agency budgets, and the regional variation in civil rights protections across the country. Her articles have appeared in the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The Atlantic, The Boston Review, and Politico, and has appeared on NPR’s Fresh Air, CBS Sunday Morning, PBS NewsHour, ABC News, CNN, MSNBC, and elsewhere. She received her J.D. from Yale University and her B.A. from Brown University.

Registration

The Annual Conference is free for members and includes attendance at the CLE Program. Guests can register and attend the CLE Program for $75. You may order lunch for an additional $35, due with your registration.

In order to register for the Annual Meeting as a member, you must join or renew your membership for the 2025-2026 membership year. You will have a chance to pay for your membership dues during the online registration process (begin below).
